In the past 100 years, American visual art has diverged into two distinct camps: Expressionist and Conceptual. While the former emphasizes the experience of both the artist and the viewer as a means of conveying emotion, the latter uses art as a means of demonstrating a distinct idea or belief. I like to believe that these notions are not mutually exclusive - that by using the inherently subjective experince of viewing art that we are able to convey these ideas and come to a stronger understanding of the art itself. My work asks you, as the viewer, to confront the painting for what it is and how you view the art.
