Anchored to wilderness areas throughout North America, my work explores ecological systems and records interactions between people and the environment. From minute studies of flora to more expansive geological formations, natural form is the foundation of my recent work. I examine connection to place through repeated journeys and visits to various landscapes and ecosystems. From these place visits, my work interprets experiences in natural environments, depictions of ever-changing landscapes, migratory movements, and the human relationship to wilderness and place.

Using traditional printmaking and photography methods, I create works on paper, illustrations, and copper-plate etchings. Over the last decade my repertoire has expanded to include multiple plate color etchings, photo-etching, chine collé, monoprints, collage, and woodcuts. I am intrigued by the way printmaking processes affect my ability to illustrate changing atmospheric conditions, and how this alters the environments my work portrays. In engaging the landscape in this way, it becomes a part of my process, ever enduring, always changing.

Elizabeth Claire Rose earned her BA cum laude in Fine Art with a minor in Wilderness Studies from the University of Montana. Rose has researched and created many series of artworks which explore landscape, migration, ecology, and place. She utilizes traditional methods of printmaking and photographic processes to create works on paper, illustrations, installations, and public art.

Rose's work was selected for publication in 25 Under 25: Up and Coming American Photographers Vol. 2, published by powerHouse Books and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. She is a recipient of artist residencies with the Alberta Printmakers' Society in Alberta, Canada, and Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina (2).

Rose has received many awards for drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography including Scholastic National Art Silver Award for photography portfolio and the National American Vision Award (2). Her work is in many collections and has been exhibited across the United States, Canada, Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Rose was awarded an Emerging Artist Grant at this year's Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, PA.
