    While continuing her independent studies in fiber and costume design, she attended Georgia State University majoring in Art History and psychology. Currently DeMent continues her studies in printmaking, paper making, independently working on welding and sculpture.  She is an obsessive gardener and bee keeper too. These natural influences are reflected in her work.

            Since 1990, DeMent has offered her expertise as a papermaker to educate the public and as an independent art educator with Young Audiences / Woodruff Art Center, Georgia Council for the Arts and other community outlets throughout the south  She shares her experience and processes of paper making  by offering programming through Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Gate Way to the Arts . Society for Contempary Craft and Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse.          

     DeMent’s achievements are varied and numerous she continues to show her work at art festivals and galleries.  In 2009 she was awarded Best of Show, Kentuck Festival held in Tuscaloosa, AL. Has been on HGTV and PBS’s Daniel Tigers Neighborhood.

     In 2011 dement relocated to Pittsburgh Pa. and has adopted it as her home embracing the climate, architecture and creative  community  DeMent currently holds studio space in Garfield. Where she makes paper out of invasive species and pulls prints on her 100 year old press.
