Making contemporary "art" quilts of my own design is the culmination of my 60 years of artistic endeavors: drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and printmaking. Fiber is my most recent artistic medium, and the most satisfying. I love the variety of fabric styles, textures, colors, and patterns available. A contemporary quilter is presented with so many visual challenges and opportunities - design, color choice, construction, stitching, border variations, and embellishment – it is virtually impossible to get bored. I envision years of exploration and experimentation ahead.
I strive to arrange forms, colors, shapes and patterns skillfully, to create an inviting and captivating composition. I do not have any overriding philosophic or emotional themes; I want the viewer to bring his/her perceptions and intuitions to bear and to freely interpret the work. Visual art can encourage wonder, absorption, perception and understanding. May my work engage, comfort and please you.
