I have always been mesmerized by the human form.  When I first began painting, I felt almost like a reporter-looking, then painting what I saw.  I have since learned that there is a huge difference between looking and seeing.  As a visual artist I will always be moved to paint what I see, but I also believe that there is more to seeing than just using your eyes.  You must use all of your senses in order to see, and my most recent work  is an example of that.  I have  begun to paint what I hear-by that I mean that music has become a fundamental catalyst for my work.  Whether it be inspiration from music, lyrics, or both, many of my paintings have an internalized, introspective, lyrical quality through which I explore basic themes that everyone can identify with: love, disappointment, forgiveness, passion, sadness.  These are all experiences that are shared in the dynamic between two people, and can also be found on the face of a single person.  I want the observer to feel connected to my work not only through looking, but also though seeing.

Heather Craft is a native of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Duquesne University with a B.A. in History with a concentration in art.  She is a self taught painter who works primarily in oils.  She was featured in her first solo exhibtion at Bella Arte Gallery in 2006.  Since then she has participated in two exhibitions at the Pen and Brush Society in New York City.
