My work comes from exaggeration, caricature, stylization, and humor. I believe the subjects for artists are everywhere. From the crack in the sidewalk, the panorama of the skyline, ex-ray imagery, childhood imaginings. The strange and glorious exists everywhere. My interests seem to always come back to the human face in my representational work. I like to explore texture and mark-making in my abstract work.
Although I have been making paintings for years, I recently started 3-D work. Sculptures using simple materials or found objects.
I engage in political art around the issues of poverty, ageism, the diseases of addiction and mental illness.
I've been a journalist, a scholar, a waitress, a silk screener, teacher but always an artist. Having the opportunity to take Saturday afternoon classes with Joeseph Fitzpatrick was a life changing experience. But more than that, when I was 13, my mother took me to see the Van Gogh exhibit at the CMOA. I just stood there in front of his painting and I couldn't move. Van Gogh once said, "I want my brush strokes to speak to people, to reach them on an emotional level." It certainly did this for me. Since then, considered myself an artist and in the never ending journey to see as much art all over the world.
