Jennifer Nagle Myers (b. 1979) is a visual artist and director of site-specific performances for public spaces who makes work to defend new possibilities of imagining and defining our world through narrative, object, performance, photographs and works on paper. This can take the form of re-enacting the unseen tragedy of an extinction so there are witnesses; creating a Never-Ending Book of Women's Rights as a way to hold all women in one place; or making work as a way to examine the striking examples of how our public land, public spaces, and public resources are increasingly being consumed and controlled by private corporations. The exploration of her practice combines tribute, conversation, critique, public outcry, and performative gestures through ongoing projects that can span years or an entire lifetime. Her work responds primarily to women's rights, land rights, environmental issues, and The American Dream which began and continues as The American Nightmare. Through investigations with materials and methods, both playful and serious, she mines these complicated spaces. Living in Southwestern PA for the past four years has given her work an extra edge and urgency due to the unregulated, unprecedented natural gas boom; a city overrun by racism and police brutality; and a state that is ranked #3 in corruption with the governor rated as the country's worst.
