After the image, hallucination remains. The retinal burn grows, creeps, splits. We squint tight, trying to fasten its shape, their shapes, draining from the cracks of fastened lids. Imagine a burden borne, carried in stride, a lightened load, a dizzy gate. Exunt stage left, again. ********************************************** This work was made one year after the January 25, 2011 Revolution in Egypt. Having been in Tahrir Square to share the exultancy of those who ousted Mubarek, Tears of All Eyes responds to the alternating radiance and eclipsing of that spirit, as fresh hopes meet persistent resistance. Optically, the work displays the persistence of vision, after images, mirages and apparitions. Three suns flicker and pulse, circumscribed, circulating and breaking free of each other as a beast of burden periodically saunters by, oblivious to the tests of freedom.
