I consider myself a multi-disciplinary artist. In all of my endeavors, I've strived to both be working towards the cutting edge in music, video, and woodworking, and to try to bring something interesting to people that they will hopefully find pleasant to their senses.
I currently design and build furniture and other wooden installations. It is my focus.
I've worked through many areas of arts, starting with photography, in RIT's Master's Program, followed by assistantships in New York and Chicago. I also put together (with two others) one of New York City's first alternative music management agencies in the 80's, handling such avant garde rock, jazz and rap acts as Sun Ra, Sonny Fortune, The Dead Kennedys, The Waitresses, Chris Spedding (now of Roxy Music), The Art Enemble of Chicago, and others . Our office toured the first group of rappers (Grandmaster Flash, DJ Afrika Bambataa and others) to various art museums across the country. I also produced concerts in Chicago at what is now known as Metro, producing the Chicago Premiere of The World Saxophone Quartet, and many musicians from Chicago's AACM.
Following that, I went into public television (and commercial and cable), first producing animation for Billy Joel's Greatest Hits home video, then helping to develop funding for various PBS projects in Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, and Dallas. I Executive Produced "Ira's People" for Court TV -
In later years, I've gone back to my initial love from my graduate school years - furniture design and construction. I've worked with various Pittsburgh architects to use my designs within their umbrella projects, as well as individual projects. Some have been stand alone, and others have been installations. I am grounded in Japanese design, both from the 1800's and from modern times, as well as Art Nouveau. My work is an appreciation of wood and its various species, and features detailed, visible joinery and organic inclusions, such as natural edged pieces.
